Service Technician 1

Northern Hills Technology is a growing managed IT service provider supporting a mix of small and medium sized businesses in the Western SD and Eastern WY area. 

NHT is currently looking for Service Technicians to join their team in Spearfish, SD. The Service Technicians are key members of a team-oriented staff and share the responsibility as part of the IT Services Team for providing the clients of Northern Hills Technology with computing and support services.

The mission of the Service Technician is to create happy and productive customers. This is a customer-facing position and is as much about setting and managing expectations as it is about solving the technical issue. You would be part of a close-knit team, touching all of our clients, maintaining all of their technology, and working to improve all of their businesses. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to being highly organized, driven, and focused on a proactive vision for all clients.

The ideal person for this position likes fast-paced environments, thinks outside the box to problem solve, possesses strong communication and technical skills, and thrives in a team environment.


Key Roles:

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Service Technician is responsible for:

  • Provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related customer infrastructure. This individual will participate in technical research and development to support continuing innovation and maintenance within these environments.
  • Utilizing industry leading PSA, RMM and remote management tools, Service Technicians monitor and address any trouble tickets that are created as a result of customers’ requests, with the goal of reducing reactive tickets for the organization. Occasional travel to client sites may be needed for escalated issues.
  • Participating in project teams that manage the initiation, planning, and execution phases of our project processes. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy, research and development, technical analysis, and overall delivery of project scopes.
  • Visiting all customers with the intent to identify deviations in standards, deficits in service delivery, and overall relationship status. Our proactive and relational approach is the foundation of how we do business.

Job Requirements (what you'll need for this job):

  • Introductory experience within the IT field
  • Working knowledge of (and basic capacity to support):
    • Windows 10, Microsoft Server, Active Directory, O365, Group policy, LAN and internet protocols, IT networking and computing equipment
  • The ability to achieve one Microsoft Certification within one year of employment
  • A valid drivers license and ability to travel locally as needed

Preferred qualifications:

Bonus points if you also bring these traits to the table:

  • Microsoft Certification(s)
  • Cybersecurity certification(s)
  • Familiarity/Certifications on firewall, wi-fi, switching and routing network infrastructure management experience
  • Familiarity with Mac OS X and related troubleshooting experience

Position:

  • This is a full time position.

Job Location:

  • Because our technicians are often required to visit client locations to provide service, this is an "on premise" role based in Spearfish, SD and must live within commuting distance of Northern Hills Technology's offices.
  • This is not a tele-work position.

Schedule

  • 8 Hour Shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Occasional Emergency Service On-Call Shifts

Compensation:

  • Pay:
    • Position rate starts at $18/Hr.
    • The actual rate will be based on a wide range of factors, including your skills, certifications, qualifications and experience.
    • Certain positions may be eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
